Partner perspective
We see each other again.
“Barry and I have grown much closer again, because we see each other again.”
Marieke describes not only what PTSD did to Barry, but also how it affected her and their children over the years.
For a long time, she felt that support focused mainly on the person with PTSD. At home, she tried to keep the peace and keep the family going.
Marieke was surprised that she, as Barry’s partner, was included too. She writes that the support from Mark and Daniëlle made their family stronger.
They were given the opportunity to talk in a way they had not for years. Three months later, Marieke wrote: ‘We experience things more intensely and are much happier. We are living rather than surviving.’ About her relationship with Barry: ‘We have grown much closer again because we see each other again.’
This is one person’s experience. One person’s outcome is not a promise to another.
